Planning Sub-Meet and Confer Notes
Thursday, November 9,
2006
College of Graduate Studies and Research, Anne Blackhurst, Interim Dean
reported there is bit of a lull now, that doctoral applications were
submitted to MnSCU, on time, and the proposal narrative will be put on
the Graduate Studies website for review. Graduate faculty load for
research faculty is not yet settled; is it for doctoral programs only/
how prescriptive do we want to be about load? Dr. Swatfager-Haney
reported on the university dining contract.
Question and discussion—what contracts come to Planning?
Recommendation that contracts which are controversial, or require
institution-wide conversation or have multiple effect on units beyond
an immediate body would “trigger” something coming to our table;
examples would be university dining, bookstore, pepsi agreement,
aviation. If one of the units whose job it is to look at contracts sees
that there are planning implications, the contract would be sent to us
by that authority; Planning could also decide if something is not in
our jurisdiction.
Planning’s SCOPE OF AUTHORITY main conversation for the year:
when are things automatic? when are things referred to us? when does
something go to a strategic task force or to us? Planning
Sub-Meet to create a list of the things in the charge, to see where we
are, then share the list with Meet and Confer, to have a big
conversation—what do others say? Discussion as to charge resulted in
request to Dr. Marg to forward a copy of the most current charge, to be
sent to all members.
Strategic Funding Priorities recommendation for Planning to evaluate,
make comments and recommendation for rank, with several tiers:
recommend for funding, fund only if funds available, not recommended
for funding.
Dr. Tracy Pellet circulated two documents, graduation rates (ours
compared to other MN state universities) and graduation rates and
ethnicity.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Duckett, Co-Chair, Planning Sub-Meet and Confer
