Program Review and Assessment Sub Meet

Approved Meeting Notes

Present: Mahbubur Syed, Howard Miller, Judith Luebke, Joanne Brandt, Nina LeNoir (chair), Terry Fogg, Steven Gilbert, RenŽ Hersrud (recorder).

Informal Discussion:

Recommendations drawn from the 2001-2002 Status of Assessment at MSU Report included:

Continued institutional support for assessment activities.
Continued faculty development.
Survey of assessment activities should be conducted.
Assessment results should be posted on the website.

Quorum Present:

Meeting notes of 25 October 2002 were approved.

The Sub Meet recommended that implementation of the information piece ÒIncorporating Assessment Activities into Article 22 ReportsÓ be considered by the Faculty Association and the Academic Affairs Council.

Discussion of the proposed Assessment of Student Learning Report yielded the following considerations. Item 5 is a new question, and the Sub Meet recommended that it be changed to read, ÒHow did the department make use of the feedback from last yearÕs assessment reportÓ? It was also recommended that changes to the Assessment of Student Learning Reports be e-mailed to Sub Meet members. (RH note: should there be another/different follow-up question? How has the department made use of the previous yearÕs assessment results to continue to improve the quality of their programs?)

There was general discussion on the publication of assessment material. Who may access the information for publication purposes? Can a filter be created to prevent inaccurate generalization of reports; e.g., general education assessment reports? Discussion will continue at the next Sub Meet meeting.

Members requested:

1. Being able to view websites at the next meeting.

2. Send Nina open times for spring semester meetings, along with times when members will be gone.
