PROGRAM REVIEW & ASSESSMENT FACULTY SUB MEET AND CONFER
April 8, 2003 Meeting
4-5 PM, CSU 244
APPROVED
NOTES
The Program Review & Assessment Sub Meet and Confer met on April 4, 2003. Faculty members in attendance were Judith Luebke, Nina LeNoir, Steve Gilbert, Mahbubur Syed, and Jackie Vieceli. JoAnn Brandt was the administrative representative. Warren Sandmann was also in attendance.
Minutes from the February 4, 2003 were
approved.
The faculty discussed the future of the
Coordinator of
Academic Assessement now that Sandmann will be serving as Assistant
Vice President
for Undergraduate Studies. There was unanimous support for continuing
this
position. LeNoir will request Faculty Association Executive Council to
encourage the administration to continue this position, and to put a
discussion
of this on the next Meet and Confer Agenda. (Note: this
position was approved and the position posted before the subsequent
Meet and
Confer took place.)
There was a discussion of the perceived
state of academic
assessment in the various colleges.
Representatives were encouraged to go to their respective
college
colleagues and get information on perceptions regarding assessment,
particularly regarding the reporting system currently in place.
Brandt reported that the Council of Deans
considered the
Sub Meet request to establish college-level assessment committees that
would
include student representation.
The perception of the deans was that this was not necessary. In lieu of this, the Sub Meet will
encourage deans to make assessment a regular item on their agendas in
meetings
concerning curriculum and at meetings of deanÕs councils.
The issue of publication of assessment
data continued to
be discussed. The consensus was
that this was an issue that was up to each individual department. If there is a requirement that
assessment data be published university-wide, it should be made
available to
the campus community through a site that is password-protected, rather
than
open to the general public.
The meeting of the Sub Meet was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Nina LeNoir, Recorder
