February 14, 2007

Present:  Brandon Cooke, Kellian Clink, Gretta Handke, Jim Rife, Ron Nickerson

1. We were asked to take a last look at the Pre-1998 General Education Tables, before they are shared with the SRCs.

2. Anne O'Meara was our guest to talk about the 1C GECCIG, which is completing its work. The report revealed that this group of papers showed students writing at a developmental level. The Assessment Team has determined that MSU student, by and large, are not succeeding at "college level" writing. The scores clearly point to a sustained need to develop more effective ways to teach students to frame and support arguments. The committee will draft a response.  A gathering will be held on March 29 @ 2:30 (place to be determined) of people who teach General Education Communication classes to talk about writing at MSU, the results of the three GECCIGs (1a, 1b, & 1c), and to propose ways of having more conversations about teaching writing at MSU.
