Force
1. The committee met with representatives from the University’s
Academic Excellence Task Force to discuss the task force’s early
activities and developing conversations. This is one of a series
of meetings the task force is having with faculty committees and
SubMeet and Confers on campus. Primary focus was on the general
education component of the task force’s work.
Committee members expressed support for the concept of creating course
clusters, increasing the number of writing intensive courses required
in the gen ed curriculum and the general direction the task force seems
to be taking with regard to general education. A good discussion
followed.
Discussion of other aspects of the task force’s work, particularly
enhancing academic standards were also discussed. A healthy
discussion of enhancing academic standards ensued.
2. An addendum to the THEA 115 course proposal was distributed.
The addendum is the department’s response to the committee’s request
for additional clarification of the original course proposal. The
committee tabled THEA 115 last semester pending receipt of the
clarification. The proposal will be discussed at the next
committee meeting.
3. Next meeting, Thursday, Feb 12, 2004, History Dept. Conf Rm, 3 PM.
4. Meeting adjourned
Respectfully submitted,
Ron Nickerson, Chair
